A major event will be the Veterans Affairs Canada 100th anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. You will gain a new appreciation for the sacrifices our parents and grandparents made as you visit the tunnels and trenches at Vimy Ridge, the Newfoundland Regiment battlefield of Beaumont Hamel, the Somme battlefield, Passchendaele, several Flanders cemeteries and Essex Farm, where Col. John McCrae wrote his famous poem “In Flanders Fields”. At Ieper (Ypres), you will participate in the daily “Last Post” ceremony at the Menin Gate. Following the World War l tour you will visit the beaches of Dieppe, the D-Day landing beaches in Normandy and the Juno Beach Centre, a major Canadian Museum and Information Centre. Before leaving France, you will enjoy both a guided tour of Paris as well as some free time there. The tour will be personalized as much as possible to make it a once in a lifetime experience.
